Brave New Heart is my first recording in 27 years.
The last was on RCA records in 1976. Like Rip Van Winkle and General Douglas
MacArthur, I have returned; and I've noticed that things have changed a bit in my
absence. Cher, for instance, has seemed to have got a lot younger. Myself, I'm
older - and not appreciably wiser - but I have been busy, writing songs.
This album has a bunch of those songs on it; and most of them, I guess, would
fall under the rubric of "country music" - though personally, I'd say it's a pretty
eclectic collection, with a lot of variety to it. There are pure country songs,
country-rock, and country-pop songs, bluegrass, dixieland, and even something you
might term country-jazz for want of a better term. There's also retro-pop songs
and ballads with some lush orchestration, and even one song with a hint of soul to
it (if not a hint, at least a whiff) - it's a kind of roadhouse blues thing.
Brave New Heart was a long time coming, but it was most definitely a labor
of love. Give it a listen, and let me know what you think.
